Find the Cause, Fix It Properly

A leaking or drifting cylinder is rarely just a seal. Scored rods, bent rods, worn bushes, contaminated oil and misalignment all destroy new seals quickly if they are not dealt with. OMS diagnoses hydraulic cylinder and ram faults on site, works out why it failed, and repairs it so it stays fixed.

Where it can be done on site, we reseal the cylinder at the machine. Where the rod or barrel needs machining, re-chroming or honing, we remove the cylinder, arrange the repair through specialist engineering shops, and refit and test it, so you deal with one contractor from start to finish.

We work on boom, arm, bucket, blade, lift and tilt, steering and outrigger cylinders, plus cylinders on fixed plant, presses and hydraulic power units.

Common cylinder faults

  • External leaks at the gland or rod seal
  • Drifting or creeping under load
  • Scored, pitted or bent rods
  • Worn pins and bushes at the eyes
  • Internal piston seal bypass
  • Damaged threads, glands and wear rings
How We Repair Cylinders

Diagnose, Reseal or Rebuild

01

Diagnose on site

We check for drift, leaks, rod damage and contamination to find the real cause.

02

Refitted, bled and function tested under load before the machine goes back to work.

FAQ

Hydraulic Cylinder Questions

Can you reseal a hydraulic cylinder on site?

Often, yes. Many cylinders can be resealed at the machine. If the rod or barrel is damaged, we remove the cylinder for repair and refit it.

Do you re-chrome rods?

We arrange rod re-chroming and barrel honing through specialist engineering shops, and handle the removal, refit and testing ourselves.

Why does my cylinder drift under load?

Usually internal leakage past the piston seal, but a faulty holding valve or control valve can cause the same symptom. We test to find which before replacing parts.

Where do you repair hydraulic cylinders?

Across South East Queensland, including Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, Logan, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.
